Welcome to The Encyclopaedia of The Old World

"The Old World is a land of contrasting regions, from the lush grassy plains of Lendleland to the unscalable peaks of the Cloudcap Mountains in Mauristatia. Its people live mostly from the land, but it has many larger settlements as well, for it escaped the cataclysmic wars that have kept the other two continents from attaining true civilization. Some of the kingdoms of the Old World have not reached their full development, but just about all of them are more sophisticated and civilized than anywhere in Allansia or Khul. "
- Titan, 284AC, The Year of the Fox.

Please note that this volume is, at this moment, still in its embryonic form with over 20 volumes of Old World based books yet to be catalogued and included. Please read the 'Recent Additions' to the Emporium to review the progress to date.

The world of Titan, introduced to many through the Fighting Fantasy series of books, has been a setting for many different adventures and stories penned by a variety of different authors. Each of the various tales has illuminated different areas of Titan within the loose parameters laid down in 'Titan - The Fighting Fantasy World'. By gradually examining each book we can begin to build up a picture of Titan as a whole.

The Old World itself is in all probability most familiar to readers from the Sorcery saga of books, set in Analand and Kakhabad. However, there are a number of other books based in, and which touch upon, the Old World, including a healthy proportion of the Salamonian Scholars' series of 'Fighting Fantasy' books.

Cumulatively, there is a healthy amount of information found within these volumes, and compared to Allansian and Khulian works they are more integrated. However, no book has comprehensively catalogued all the information. The Old World Encyclopaedia is a work in progress with that goal in mind. It will eventually have a companion volume 'The Atlas of The Old World' which together will unify the various sources of information on The Old World. This aim extends to its history and cultures; its flora and fauna; its cities and buildings; and all that makes up its various realms.

The encyclopaedia is evolving continually as more information is processed. If one considers that within the Encyclopaedia of Khul there are over 1500 entries, and The Old World has a similar volume of literature devoted to it, it can be appreciated that to do The Old World justice will require thousands of entries. Correspondingly, this will require much time to complete.

Currently this volume is, at this moment, still in its embryonic form with over 15 volumes of The Old World based books yet to be catalogued and included. Please read the 'Recent Additions' to the Emporium to review the progress to date.

The encyclopaedia will eventually index all the information in a variety of ways; for instance by location and by type, e.g. Cities & Buildings; Fields & Plains; Plants; Individuals (and types of individuals) etc. On the left you can see the main alphabetical index, and below that a variety of other indexes as well, which will be added to in the fullness of time.
